We Have Come Over a Way that with Tears Have be Watered: Understanding African American Historic Triumph
This discussion takes us from 1440 (the beginning of Western Slave Trade) to 1619 (when 1st Africans arrive in the colony of Virginia) to 1863 and the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation to Today where over 1 million Black Men and Women are incarcerated. I seek to draw upon Economic, Political, Social and Personal Decisions, Policies and Directives made that have hindered but not stopped Black Progress, Excellence and Triumph. This lecture attempts to show that history is 3-dimensional within time (Past, Present and Future) and EVERY decision we make is one that speaks to these 3 dimensions. ** Even those 1 million incarcerated today must think about how our decision are OURS and that even within social/political structures that are obstacles, we make our own decisions that affect our future generations. (added for penal institutions) But there is Triumph in knowing that “WE HAVE COME OVER A WAY THAT WITH TEARS HAVE BEEN WATERED”
